RE: (ATMoB:Discuss) Natural Wonders not World of Science
Mike, Anna, et al:
I picked up a couple of the 6mm Plossl's at $12, one for my son Dave, who
has just finished an 8" f/6 and is rushing to get the mount done for
Stellafane.
I also bought a few 12 and 25mm Kellners but they only look like they are
worth about what I paid for, not the original retail price. plastic barrels.
I did get the field tripod and case for my ETX125 and a special order item
- the tabletop tripod legs.
If only they had more of the 6" Celestron Refractor OTA's. I heard the
optics are quite good as a doublet design.
On a sad note, Dave ordered a 2" aluminized elliptical diagonal from ORION
for $19, guaranteed to 1/10th wave. It arrived today and we let it settle
in front of the Zygo phase measuring interferometer.
It had 2 waves P-V of power and some astigmatism - piece of junk ! Orion
could not promise a real tenth wave so he had to ask for an RMA and refund.
Orion blamed its supplier!
It is very difficult to re-figure an elliptical surface so he will make a
fused silica one from scratch.
It is a shame that distributors are still doing this - it is the little guy
out in the stix that gets screwed. By the time he gets the scope together
and finds an astigmatic image, the 30 day warranty is long gone. Buyer
Beware. ATTN: S&T
